If you have wanted to try out the great sport of curling, Michener Hill Curling Club on Thursday nights is the place you want to be for the 2025-26 season!
Starting on Thursday, October 23, Michener Hill’s New to Curling League returns for its second year. The league is open only to those people who haven’t curled before (or it’s been a really long time since last stepped on the ice!). In the first year in 2024-25, 30 new curlers took to the ice for instruction and on-ice experience before Christmas, and then returned after Christmas for league play.
The season is divided into two parts:
- From October to Christmas, instruction is provided each night from certified instructors and experienced club members, along with the opportunity to play a few ends to try out the new skills you have learned. There might even be a beverage provided to conclude each evening!
- After Christmas, from January to March, we hope everyone returns so that we can form teams and a regular schedule of games for our new curlers. There will be at least one experienced curler on hand each night to provide assistance on strategy, rules or skill development.
And this year we have an added bonus – on Saturday, October 18, between 10 am and 2 pm – new curlers are invited to visit the club, try throwing a few rocks, and meet some of the instructors. There is no charge for this bonus session.
Cost for our New to Curling League is $150 for each half of the season. This includes the membership fee, Curling Alberta fee, and GST. Members can also join the Friday Drop-In at no charge.
- Start time: 6:45 pm (please arrive 15 minutes early so equipment can be distributed)
- Make sure to wear loose, layered clothing (no jeans), and clean running shoes.
Each Thursday session includes instruction from certified instructors, followed by a chance to practice what they have learned. Everyone finishes the evening with a beverage and socializing in the lounge.
